for process oversight

Unified Authoring and Reviewing Approach
The new capabilities of XMetaL Reviewer 6.0 when combined with
XMetaL Author
Enterprise 6.0 form the foundation for a unified XML authoring and reviewing
platform. New to this release is the capability of XMetaL Reviewer to allow the
review of any number of documents together as a single project. This includes,
but is not limited to:
- Projects and large documents based on DITA Maps
- Multi-document projects allowing the author to decide and distribute XML
documents as a single project for review
- Project bundles which allow the author to send not only the XML documents or
topics requiring review, but also any associated images, content references (conref’s),
maps or other linked content. In addition, any material or associated content
that is not necessarily part of the review can be sent by the author for
reference.
These significant new features form the core of a powerful and flexible
multi-user collaborative authoring and reviewing environment.
XMetaL Reviewer 6.0 Feature Highlights
- Reference PDF Generation. XMetaL Reviewer 6.0 can create a PDF that
illustrates the final output of a document and allows direct navigation to
the topic or portion of the document that is under review. This allows users
to quickly place the topic or content in context of the final product during
the review cycle.
- Administration and Tracking. Authors have significantly upgraded
capabilities to initiate and manage reviews. Once a review is initiated
authors may assign reviewers and co-authors, provide additional metadata
around the review such as comments or timelines, complete the review cycle
and retrieve reviewed materials, and view at any time what projects he or
she is authoring and what components of the projects are under review. These
capabilities allow organizations to easily manage large complex documents
across multiple authors and reviewers with a minimum of effort or conflict.
- Enhanced communications and reporting. The XMetaL Reviewer Home page
allows real-time monitoring of projects that an author or reviewer has in
progress. Improvements have also been made to the reporting engine including
support for multi-document reports and summary reports that include all an
author or reviewers in progress projects.
Collaborative Content Across the Enterprise
XMetaL Review & Collaboration can be applied to collaborative content across the enterprise, including:
- Regulatory filings
- Policies & procedures
- Operations
- Technical documentation and publications
- Proposals & contracts
- Research & development records and more
Enable Web-based Content Creation for Business Users
As the only technology for developing and integrating a web-based solution that works directly with native XML files, it can be adapted to:
- Give contributors, domain experts and reviewers across the enterprise a
convenient, web-based environment to provide feedback on critical pieces of
content in real-time and in context.
- Encourage reviewers or subject matter experts without any understanding of
the mechanics of XML or underlying markup and tags to participate and provide
comments.
- Capture and preserve comments across drafts to eliminate miscommunication,
backtracking, multiple versioning and process delays.
- Merge comments and revisions back into source XML documents.
- Preserve document history and meet regulatory requirements by retaining an
audit trail of the feedback, decisions and progress made towards final approval.
